Here are some sites that may be of interest:

The Educational Podcast Network (EBN) is a directory of educational podcasts, aimed at educators. As well as the listing of podcasts, the site hopes to be a source of information about podcasting, explaining what it is and how to get started.

Podutainment (POrtable eDUcational enterTAINMENT) is another directory, this time aimed at actual learners. They are trying to reach a figure of 150 educational podcasters on their site, although the focus seems to be on US education. However, it's an interesting site with a very colourful interface.

The links come courtesy of the Podcast-Education group, which is worth subscribing too. The other podcasting group I belong to is also on Yahoo, Podcasters, is more general, but there is a lot of discussion of what the medium is and what it could be, the technicalities (which microphone to use, etc.), and seem sto be a generous, supportive group.

Of course, we don't have to just blog about podcasting. We can podcast about it too. These are some ideas I had yesterday about podcasting:

And they credit Adam Curry with popularising the term. I used his "soundseeing" tour of Schipol airport in a lesson (with a group of computer programmers) but actually I guess the subject was "pointless but interesting behaviour" rather than airports per se. I set them a lot of mp3s as homework on a kind of "extensive listening" concept. Ideal for coporate clients with a shared drive on their networks. Everyone can access the sound whenever they want.

Sean Ellis's link to the BBC In Pod We Trust article, led me to the linked site by Adam Curry. Well worth a listen; some of the content I've listened to on other podcasting podcasts recently hasn't been that good but this is more like it - the podcasting edition has some interesting content.

I'm having problems burning the feed for this site as Feedburner can't validate it for some reason. Firstly there was a problem with the code in the link in John's posting (a missing ';' apparently). Now it doesn't want to recognise it for some other reason so I'm attaching a short audio file here and having another go.

I haven't created my first podcast yet, but should be able to do it soon. I'd like to encourage the other members of this blog to do the same. In this way, we should be able to start building an interesting array of resources, and learn about the right way to go about podcasting in the process.

Two other questions:
1) Steve, could you set up a podcast-friendly RSS feed for this site too?
2) Could you add the Blogger sidebar feature that shows the list of Members to this blog?

Welcome to the first posting to our new teflpodcasting blog. I hope this will prove a useful forum for developing this idea and we can build up a comprehensive selection of links and attract an active membership. This replaces the Global Village blog that didn't really go anywhere, but then neither did GV in the end. I hope in this case we're barking up the right tree - personally I feel very optimistic, not to mention excited, about the potential of podcasting as a teaching tool and learning resource. I've had good feedback from my students already and the idea of using material from my podcast as authentic listening material with a whole class has worked well. I'm particularly looking forward to developing links to a wide selection of podcasts, both in terms of developing ideas in this area and find useful sources of authentic materials. so over to you all.
